Outstanding Paper Award and Two Posters at Asilomar Conference 2025

I had the pleasure of presenting two posters at the 2025 59th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers (Oct 26-29), and I’m delighted to share that one of them received the Outstanding Paper Award (top 10 papers) at the conference!

The award-winning work, Low-Complexity Detection of Signals Under Unknown Bandwidth Constraints, tackles signal detection when the frequency, bandwidth, and time of a transmission are all unknown, a setting where traditional frequency-domain energy detection falls apart. Using a GLRT metric together with a dyadic interval binary search, we reach near-optimal detection at about 0.1% of the computation of exhaustive maximum likelihood, staying consistent and robust across SNRs and bandwidths and beating a U-Net baseline without any training cost. That makes it a practical fit for real-time spectrum sensing in cognitive radio, adversarial communications, radar, and upper mid-band coexistence. The second poster, Reconfigurable vs. Specialized Architectures for Wireless Baseband Processing: A Spatial Array Perspective, asks how much flexibility a baseband accelerator can afford. We compare a reconfigurable spatial array against specialized HLS kernels in a 32nm node across FIR, matrix-matrix and matrix-vector multiplication, outer products, and vector magnitude squared. Individually the HLS kernels are more power and area efficient, but once you account for the aggregate of all the kernels a single spatial array wins on both, and it dominates on latency and throughput for compute-intensive workloads like matrix multiplication.
